Elvaston Castle

Elvaston Castle is a Gothic masterpiece within a large country park situated a few miles south east of Derby city. It first opened to the public in 1970 and was the first country park of its kind to be opened in Britain.

The castle was designed in the early 1800's by James Wyatt, it became the home to Stanhope family until it was sold to Derbyshire County Council in 1968. Unfortunately it is no longer in use however, throughout the year it hosts craft and computer fairs, country shows and steam rallies.

The beautiful grade II gardens and grounds are the real attraction and are more than 200 acres of varied landscape, including a lake, picnic areas, adventure play ground and woodlands.
